Sanorfizah has breathing difficulties during operation - Updates

[Crimes]

JOHOR BARU: Snatch theft victim Sanorfizah Saleh, who has been in a coma for 15 days, developed breathing difficulties during surgery on Tuesday and has been sent back to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Her husband, Azahar Md Ali, said she was wheeled into the ICU immediately after an operation to correct her dislocated jaw on Tuesday evening.

“She has been on the respirator since Saturday and doctors have described her condition as static, meaning there are no changes to her situation,” he said when contacted yesterday.

After about a week in the ICU, Sanorfizah was transferred to the neurological ward for about four days before going in for the operation.

Azahar, who has been at his wife’s bedside every day since she was admitted to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital, said he had not given up hope of seeing her well again one day.

“This is a test for us. I will be strong for her and for the children but sometimes it is difficult, especially when I am alone with her. Every day, I pray that today would be the day she opens her eyes,” he said.

Azahar said doctors had told him that Tuesday's operation – where a steel plate was inserted to support her dislocated jaw – was successful.

He said special prayers for Sanorfizah had been performed at their house in Kampung Cahaya Baru in Masai and at his father in-law’s workplace at the Pasir Gudang District Council.

Thirty-one-year-old Sanorfizah, a mother of six, suffered serious head injuries when a snatch thief grabbed her handbag from her motorcycle's front carrier and kicked the motorbike, causing her to fall.

She was going home to Masai from Pasir Gudang.

She gave birth to her sixth child, a baby boy, through Caesarean section while she was unconscious.
