Klang cops to go undercover

KLANG: Police will go “undercover” at known snatch theft areas to catch the thieves.

Operating in teams three, the plainclothes policemen will keep watch on several neighbourhoods that are targets of the thieves.

“Based on reports and information gathered we have compiled the routes used by the snatch thieves.

“It is a wide area to cover but it is a matter of time before we curb this menace,” Klang OCPD Asst Comm Jamil Ayub said.

ACP Jamil said snatch thieves chose a certain neighbourhood because of the many escape routes available to them.

He declined to disclose which areas the police were covering at the moment adding that housewives or residents should act as the eyes and ears of the police.

“We want the public to inform us immediately if they see suspicious characters on motorcycles.

“Note the colour of the bike, colour of their attire, shoes and if possible the number plate,” he said.

“We plan to enlist the help of the Klang Municipal Council by lighting up alleys and cleaning the thick undergrowth bordering residential areas that snatch thieves use as hiding places, most of whom are drug addicts.”

Residents can call police at 03-3371 2222 if they see suspicious characters in their neighbourhoods.
