An Indonesian snatch thief unknowingly dropped his identification document when confronted by three residents in Taman Sri Serdang on Saturday.

With the document, Petaling Jaya (South) police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fuad Talib said they had launched an operation to track down the 25-year-old suspect, identified only as Latif.

This is the second incident in the district in two weeks in which snatch thieves drop- ped their identification documents.

On Nov 17, a 22-year-old snatch theft suspect lodged a report at Puchong police station, claiming he had drop- ped his pouch containing an identification document.

While lodging the report, the man was unaware that his pouch was already in custody of the Seri Kembangan police.

As the pouch was handed over to the police by a snatch theft victim, the suspect was arrested when he lodged the report.

Several hours later, his accomplice was picked up in the Taman Bukit Serdang Industrial Park.

In the incident on Satur- day, the suspect had drop- ped his identification document when he fled from three residents who responded to a cry for help from a 24-year- old Universiti Putra Malaysia tutor in Taman Sri Serdang.

The suspect had slapped and pushed the woman down after failing to grab the victim's handbag containing RM9,000, a cell phone and work documents outside her house.

Fuad urged those with information on the suspect to call 03-89484822 or the nearest police station.
